Habitat:
Weedy lowland pasture (although not pastured this year) along creek. Scattered trees of Ulmus americana, Acer negundo, Salix nigra, S. amygdaloides, with Rudbeckia hirta, R. laciniata, Phalaris arundinacea, Verbena hastata, V. urticifolia (and a hybrid of the two!), Cirsium arvense, C. vulgare, Helenium autumnale, Silphium perfoliatum. Upright tree, originally 65cm. diam., now only 8m. tall and top broken off. Petioles bright red, leaves glaucuos beneath.
