Habitat:
Pure deep damp sand of outer beach, in the first (flat) swale 7 to 8 m (25 ft.) from water's edge. Assoc.: Equisetum Xtrachyodon (abundant), Carex aurea, C. garberi, C. viridula, Tofieldia glutinosa, Zigadenus glaucus, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Hypericum kalmianum, and Betula pumila saplings. Very common.
