Habitat: Fen. Growing in rich, peaty, wet soil. In full sun growing along a slow seepage spring. Associates include Alnus rugosa, Solidago riddelli, Porentilla fruticosa, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Lobelia Kalmii, Liatris pycno stachya and Typha latifolia. The fen stretches from the river's edge to the southern tip of the upland island
