Habitat: Roadside edge of shrub thickets on bank of causeway across extensive Cyperaceae-Sphagnum meadow. Soil damp, a mixture of gravel, sand, and peaty muck. Assoc. incl. Betula glandulifera, B. X sandbergii, Aronia melanocarpa, Prunus pensylvanica, Spiraea tomentosa, Ilex verticillata, Hypericum kalmianum, Vaccinium macrocarpon, Aster umbellatus, Solidago uliginosa. All the shrubs listed have now been cut down, but they will undoubtedly repsrout.
