Habitat: Sand prairie; assoc.: Anemone cylindrica, Antennaria plantaginifolia var. plantaginifolia, Carex muhlenbergii, Hypericum perforatum, Lithospermum incisum, Panicum oligosanthes var. scribnerianum, Physalis virginiana, Poa pratensis, Tragopogon dubius. E-W lying ridge of Upper Cambrian (= St. Croixan) sandstone supporting sand prairies, Quercus alba savannas, and recovering old fields. A few thousand Cirsium flodmanii plants scattered on sand prairies on the property. The status of this thistle, whether adventive or native, is still uncertain for both this particular population and the state as a whole. It should be remembered that here, as at other WI sites, it grows in open habitats.
