Habitat:
On steep slope right at very base of WNW-facing sandstone cliff, in lower half of hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) relic; more or less moist sandy soil covered with thick duff layer. Assoc.: Anemone quinquefolia var. quinquefolia, Athyrium filix-femina var. angustum, Betula papyrifera, Claytonia virginica, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, and Luzula campestris. Upper Cambrian or St. Croixan ("Potsdam") sandstone.
