Habitat:
Extensive lowland prairie on huge outwash sand terrace along river. Dry-mesic segments dominated by Andropogon scoparius, Sporobolus heterolepis, & Koeleria macrantha (on low swells) grading to wet segments dominated by Andropogon gerardii, Panicum virgatum, & Spartina pectinata (in shallow swales). Dry-mesic prairie (not dense and turfy), with Elymus virginicus, E. canadensis, E. canadensis X E. virginicus, Prunus pumila, Rosa blanda, Solidago canadensis, S. gigantea, Artemisia ludoviciana and Aster ericoides. Deep loose loamy sand on top of riverbank; full sun and light shade in vicintiy of a small copse of Acer negundo and Quercus macrocarpa trees.
