Habitat: Terribly degraded dry hill prairie, on rocky slope in full sun, with only Bouteloua curtipendula, Panicum oligosanthes var. scribnerianum, Carex gravida, Penstemon digitalis (introd.?), Potentilla recta, and many scattered small Crataegus trees and lots of weeds. Stems yellow-green, in clumps of 15-25, 20-34 in. (80-87 cm) long, now lying on ground, forming a radiating, star-shaped pattern like the spokes of a wheel.
