Habitat:
Weeds in a poor quality buckwheat field, most collected from mowed circles around and paths between duck blinds; field mowed in Aug., the bent over and cut-off grasses now re-emerging, some forming new heads under water or a little above water surface; field now entirely flooded 25cm deep to attract ducks. Native annual of shores, marshes, and mucky, damp or dry fields and waste ground. Weedy in habit. The relatively large achenes are eaten by waterfowl.
