Habitat:
Good-quality (the best I've seen) jack pine barrens, fairly open (100% open = sand prairie to 50% cover = savanna), on level dry sand; area at least 10 acres; Plainfield Sand (surface layer grayish-brown fine loose sand, subsoil loose porous fine sand). Andropogon gerardii-common, Arabis lyrata, Carex pensylvanica-codominant, Coreopsis palmata, Conyza canadensis, Corylus americana-common, Danthonia spicata, Selaginella rupestris-abundant, Hedeoma hispida, Helianthemum canadense, Lespedeza capitata, Heuchera richardsonii, Koeleria macrantha-abundant, Monarda punctata, Panicum commonsianum v. euclamydeum, Phlox pilosa-rare, Poa pratensis-codominant, Polygala polygama-rare, Schizachyrium scoparium, Smilacina stellata, Solidago missouriensis.
