Habitat: Acid boggy flat, actually a peaty-sandy "borrow pit". Not a distinct community, but an association of intermingled plants of boggy places. Ground cover mostly sedges (Carex stricta-dominant, C. echinata, C. scoparia, Eriophorum virginicum) with sparse small trees (Larix laricina) and saplings (Alnus rugosa, Betula papyrifera); assoc.: Campanula aparinoides v. grandiflora, Castilleja coccinea, Drosera rotundifolia, Hypericum kalmianum, Lysimachia terrestris, Oenothera perennis, Pedicularis canadensis, Osmunda regalis v. spectabilis, Potentilla simplex, Rubus hispidus, Thelypteris palustris v. pubescens, Viola sagittata. Soil: sandy subsoil covered by a thin layer of peaty material (the original topsoil, Dunning Silt Loam, had long since been removed).
