Habitat: Small opening in boreal forest-like Thuja occidentalis (1 dominant)-Betula papyrifera (2 dominant) woodland; gentle slope; substrate moist but relatively dry compared to adjacent cedar and alder swamps. Prevalent groundlayer spp. are tree seedlings (Betula papyrifera, Picea glauca, and Thuja occidentalis), other groundlayer spp. are few (Carex castanea, C. eburnea, C. flava, Castilleja coccinea, Hieracium piloselloides, Rhamnus alnifolia, and Senecio pauperculus).
