Habitat: Northern mesic forest on rough rolling ground; Acer saccharum dom.-Tilia americana subdom., with Betula alleghaniensis, B. papyrifera, Populus grandidentata, and Abies balsamea as well as Cornus alternifolia, Lonicera canadensis, and Sambucus canadensis; groundlayer includes Lycopodium annotinum, L. dendroideum, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Carex brunnescens, C. deweyana, Trillium cernuum, Polygonatum pubescens, Sanguinea canadensis, Actaea pachypoda, and Osmorhiza claytonii. Recombines characters of P. saltuensis (short ligules; acute, 5-veined lemmas) and P. languida (short - 0.7--8.0 mm - anthers).
