Habitat: Northern mesic forest: Acer saccharum (1-dom.)-Fagus grandifolia (2-dom.; 16 in. DBH), w/ Betula papyrifera, Fraxinus americana, & Quercus borealis (one 23 in. DBH); prevalent groundlayer herbs & shrubs: Actaea pachypoda, Athyrium angustum, Botrychium virginianum, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Ormorhiza claytonii, Polygonatum pubescens, Sambucus racemosa ssp. pubens, Smilacina racemosa, Streptopus roseus, Trillium grandiflorum, and Viola pubescens var. pubescens, as well as Carex pedunculata, Galium lanceolatum, and Solidago flexicaulis. Ungrazed, but some cutting in years past; shrub density low; not mixed with conifers as is so common on the Door Peninsula. Pls. bluish-green; larger lf-blades 11--14 mm wide.
