Woods. Near top of small sandstone ridge. Very rugged. Growing with Quercus velutina, Betula papyrifera, Rubus, Pterdium aquilinum, Gaylussacia St. Peter Sandstone bedrock. Steep slope. On sandstone outcrop.. Multi-trunked shrub to 5m. Common.
