Habitat: Near-climax Acer saccharum-Quercus rubra forest with lesser amounts of Tilia americana, Ostrya virginiana, and Acer rubrum; understory with some ferns, rich in spring-blooming plants: Elymus hystrix, Carex radiata, Thalictrum dioicum, Asclepias exaltata, Galium concinnum, and Viburnum acerifolium. On a ridge lying within the interlobate moraine formed between the Green Bay and Lake Michigan lobes of the Wisconsin glacier.
