Habitat: Small prairie fen occupying a peaty spot (scarcely a depression) surrounded by recovering wet-mesic prairie; apparently wetter earlier in the season. Carex sterilis-locally abundant, dominant in a 50-ft.-diameter circle, with Equisetum laevigatum, Helianthus grosseserratus, Liatris pycnostachya, Lysimachia quadriflora, Pentaphylloides floribunda, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Packera pseudaurea var. semicordata, Silphium terebinthinaceum, Thalictrum dasycarpum. Tract lies within a large block of DNR-owned grasslands (prairies, sedge meadows, fens, long-abandoned pastures and fields) that has the potential of becoming the largest and richest prairie in the state.
