Habitat:
Side of gravel road on a gentle, W-facing slope above a ditch in what appeared to be a sandy loam. The soil survey indicates that Freeon silt loam, 2-6% slopes, moderately well drained, occurs here. It is a silty soil that is 12-36inches thick over sandy loam glacial till. The sand the orchids occur in may be a subsoil exposed by road construction. Assoc.: Achillea millefoilum, Fragaria virginiana, Polystrichum sp., Prunella vulgaris and Rudbeckia hirta. There were 37 ramets. Their phenology ranged from all flowers in bud to about half the flowers open. The flowers were white. The back of the throat of the flowers appeared to be light yellow.
