Habitat: Wet flat peaty depression (acidic swale) between two beach ridges, resembling a semi-open bog. Dominants are Picea mariana (1-dom.) & Larix laricina (2-dom.), w/ Pinus banksiana (3-dom.) & P. strobus (4-dom.) important trees; dominants in the storied shrub layer are Nemopanthus mucronatus & Chamaedaphne calyculata, w/ Rubus setosus, s.l., frequent; sphagnum moss & Rhynchospora fusca dominate the ground layer, w/ Calopogon pulchellus common. Flora includes Osmunda cinnamonea, Iris versicolor, Panicum acuminatum var. fasciculatum (det. Freckmann), C. oligosperma, C. lasiocarpa, C. cephalantha, Drosera intermedia, D. rotundifolia, Acer rubrum seedlings, Triadenum fraseri, Andromeda glaucophylla, Vaccinium macrocarpon,V. angust.
