Habitat:
Low, deep blacksoil prairie (with Salix spp., Phlox pilosa, Betula sandbergii, Asclepias hirtella). Along RR and road. Very low, only fresh shoots, 5" tall. [var. pilosifolius A.F. Hill If you crae to recognize that variety. We do not keep it separate, since the variety seems to be more ecological than geographical-DH&T]
