Habitat:
Young maple-white birch-red oak-Ostrya woods, with Hepatica americana, sedges, Mitchella, Monotropa uniflora, Asclepias exaltata, and Trillium grandiflorum. Groundlayer rather sparse. Six basal leaves not collected. Two small non-flowering individuals nearby.
