Habitat:
In ungrazed, occasionally lumbered woods in bottom of small valley. With Acer rubrum, Ulmus rubra, Tilia americana, Carya cordiformis. Single-stemmed shrub 5m tall, 8cm in diameter. Bark smooth, gray. Ripe fruit ca. 9mm in diameter, dark red on upper side, when all ripe turning pale pink, soft, juicy, +/- insipid taste. Seeds light brown.
