Latitude/Longitude was derived from the Township, Range, Section location. This causes an imprecision.
Habitat:
Grove of large old Quercus macrocarpa and Q. ellipsoidalis on valley terrace, 4 m. above marshy lowland, river valley. This area heavily pastured for many decades and no other native vegetation, originally savanna before white settlement in the 1850's. These trees probably began growth in the 1840's as did nearby Q. macrocarpa cut down this year. Q. ellipsoidalis can form fine large trees but apparently are not as long-lived as the Q. macrocarpa because the tops or the whole trees tend to be blown over
