Habitat: River bottom Typical Q. coccinea. Site & assoc. reflects morphology. Q. coccinea growing on more protected, moist sites develop more "typical" morphology - DAS] Sheet 2 of 2. [Large fruited forms have been coll. at (Nr. Green Bay - Brown Co. F376881 -(Field Museum)) (N of Transition Zone or near border.)] [Terminal bud 4.75 mm long, silky-pubescent on distal 0.5. Acorn cap scale bodies tuberculate, and acorn shape is reminiscent of problematic individuals in the southern and eastern portions of Chicago region. I suspect this is Q. ellipsoidalis, but at this point Q. coccinea can't be ruled out - A.L. Hipp, 2008]
