Habitat: This scarlet oak is growing in a residential yard consisting of a dry oak woods with the following other trees: black oak, white oak, bur oak, walnut, black cherry & slippery elm. Green leaves & acorns coll. Sep. 2, 1993; colored leaves coll. Oct. 12, 1993. [includes a color photos taken in 2nd week of October showing differnt leaf colors of bur, scarlet, white, & black oaks] [Terminal bud 3.75 mm long, silky-pubescent, slightly angular in cross-section. Acorn cap scale bodies slightly tuberculated, but not outside the range of variation of Q. ellipsoidlis. No rings at stylar end of nut. - A.L. Hipp, 2008]
