Locality: United States, Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Milwaukee. Near refreshment stand opposite intersection of Lake Dr. and Locust St. Lake Park, Milwaukee.
Habitat: Found on rich, moist, loamy soil near woods; assoc. with maple, white oak, hickory. Common native tree; 30' tall, 6" dia.; bark gray-brown, ridged and furrowed; adaxial lf. surface glabrous, dark green; abaxial surface densely white-tomentose w/ stellate hairs; male flrs. yellow-green scattered clusters on amenths; female fls. red, few, long-petioled clusters.
