Habitat: Moist thicket surrounded by wet-mesic prairie; assoc.: Populus tremuloides (aspect dominant), with Prunus serotina, Cornus racemosa, Rubus idaeus ssp. strigosus, Agrimonia gryposepala, and Solidago gigantea.. Variable landscape with pockets and patches of prairies, fens, sedge meadows, and wet thickets. Wis. DNR Habitat Preservation Area, recovering agricultural land that has been in public ownership for ca. 50 years, grazed before then, pieces of it burned this spring (2000) for the first time in many decades.
