Wet-mesic prairie; assoc.: Andropogon gerardii, Schizachyrium scoparium, Sorghastrum nutans, Spiranthes cernua, Desmodium canadense, Oxypolis rigidior, Lysimachia quadriflora (rare), Gentiana andrewsii, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Agalinis purpurea, and. many Compositae, including Aster novae-angliae, Liatris pycnostachya (spectacular populations), Prenanthes racemosa, Silphium integrifolium (abundant), Solidago canadensis, and S. riddellii. Wis. DNR Habitat Preservation Area, recovering agricultural land that has been in public ownership for ca. 50 years, grazed before then, burned this spring for the first time in many decades. Only 2 plants seen, but this sp. produces only 1 or 2 basal lvs. during years it doesn't bloom.
