Habitat:
Oak opening/savanna. Growing at the base of a Quercus alba (dominant in canopy). Growing in mostly shade, area with a semi-open canopy on a SW-facing slope. Associates include Ranunculus fasicularis, Carex pensylvanica, Carex convoluta, young. Prunus serotina, Smilacina racemosa, Galium borale, Fragaria virginiana, Achillea millefolium, Antennaria plantaginifolia, Aster azureus, Erigeron pulchellus, Solidago nemoralis, S. speciosa, Aureolaria pedicularia, Sisyrinchium albidum, Luzula multiflora, Desmodium canadense, Viola pedatifida, Vicia americana, Ceanothus americanus.
