Habitat:
Brushy bank on SE facing slope at base of river valley bluff, edge of deciduous forest, with Rhus glabra, Rubus occidentalis, young Ulmus americana. Leaves glossy above, especially if in full sun. Petiole, stem and inflorescence often red. One to four carpels developed from each flower. Fruit green, a few beginning to turn dark purple. Dense viny tangles over shrubs.
