Habitat:
Rich low deciduous woods (Acer saccharum-Tilia americana ass'n, w/Quercus alba (large old trees), Fraxinus americana, Ulmus rubra, Ostrya virginiana, Carpinus caroliniana) on first terrace of river; dark-colored silt loam soil. Grown over lane. A 40 acre stand w/ a history of cutting but no grazing along N side of river. Assoc.: Carex sprengellii, C. convoluta, C. laxiculmis, Ranunculus septentrionalis, Geum canadense, Scutellaria ovata, Solidago gigantea.
