Habitat:
Pasture, E-facing slope, partially wooded, with Quercus alba, Ulmus americana, Zanthoxylum americanum. The sterile shoots are of the thinner, wider shade leaves; vigorous shoots have larger leaves. Fruit abundant, immature, green with lighter dots, yellow along the ridges, lightly aromatic. Sheet 1 of 2. Tree 12m. tall, 35cm. in dia.; bark hard, shallowly furrowed, not flaking, grayish. Crushed foliage w/ rather biting aroma.
