Habitat:
Sugar maple-white cedar forest with American beech and Cornus rugosa over Aralia nudicaulis, Aster macrophyllous, Actaea pachypoda and Osmorhiza claytonii. Arborescent shrub, 12-stemmed from the base, the trunks 28-35 ft. tall. Locally (?) frequent in campground ( the original stem of this plant may have been cut.)
