Habitat: Rich Acer saccharum-Tilia-Quercus borealis woods w/ limestone cliffs and boulders. Very rich & ungrazed on moderate slo, w/ some Juglans nigra and this sp. near the bottom, Q. borealis near top. A 20ft high limestone cliff near top w/ outcrops & boulders Trees in 10-20" range w/ larger ones at base. Assoc. Aesculus glabra, Dirca palustris, Panax quinquifolia, Cacalia muhlenbergii, Dryopteris goldiana, Carpinus caroliniana, Trillium flexipes, Quercus alba, Cornus alternifolia, Sanicula trifoliata, Solidago flexicaulis, Asarum canad., Osmorhiza longistylis, Mitella diphylla, Polymnia canadensis, Caulophyllum thalic., Actaea rubra, A. pachy., Adiantum pedatum, Laportea canadensis, Circaea quad., Desmodium glut.[see label] Tree 12 m tall, 20 cm dbh.
