Habitat: Brushy pasture on E-facing slope, being invaded by Zanthoxylum, Ulmus americana, Ostrya virginiana, Populus grandidentata. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw 46198. Tree 18m tall, 20cm diam.; bark tight, w/ anastomosing ridges. Common invader on E-facing slope. Many leaves turning yellow; fruit yellow-green, husk splitting before drying; nut meats exceedingly bitter & unpalatable.
