Habitat: Shaded riverside mesic woods. With Tilia, Ostrya, Isopyrum, Juglans cinerea, Viola pubescens, V. sororia, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Erythronium americanum, Quercus alba, Caulophyllum, Circaea alpina, Carex amphibola, C x hirtifolia. BER. In occasionally mown area of wayside; several 5 m diam. clones, total ca. 1000 flowering stems.
