Habitat:
Rich low deciduous woods (Acer sachharum-Tilia americana ass'n, w/Quercus alba (large old trees), Fraxinus americana, Ulmus rubra, Ostrya virginiana, Carpinus caroliniana) on first terrace of river; dark-colored silt loam soil. Adjacent river-edge forest seasonally inundated privately owned 40-acre stand w/ a history of cutting but no grazing along N side of river. Assoc. spp: Carex grayi, C. amphibola var. turgida, Smilax ecirrara, Arabis laevigata, Laportea canadensis, Geranium maculatum, Lysimachia ciliata and Rudbeckia laciniata.
