Habitat: Steep, N-facing slope, side of crumbling sandstone mound; open sandy rocky soil supporting xeric prairie w/ no particular species dominant & scattered Pinus banksiana & Populus tremuloides saplings invading from above. Assoc.: Peltigera sp., Cladonia spp some mosses. Additional Data: Open stony ground, the soil between the rocks pure sand. Assoc.: Andropogon scoparius, Festuca rubra, Elymus canadensis, Koelaria macrantha, Anemone cylindrica, Potentilla arguta, Ceanothus americanus (rare), Saponaria officianalis, Monarda punctata, Campanula rotundifolia, Houstonia longifolia, Heterolepis villosa, Helianthus occidentalis, Kuhnia eupatorioides var. corymbulosa, Liatris aspera, Aster laevis, Solidago nemoralis, S. speciosa, Artemisia caudata, etc.
