Habitat: Black oak (Quercus velutina) barrens. Soil loose and sandy, covered by mosses and lichens. Assoc.: Agrostis scabra, Carex pensylvanica, C. foenea, Potentllia argentea, Lespedeza capitata, Euphorbia corollata, Helianthemum canadense, Hetertheca villosa,. Ereigeron strigosus, etc. Flowers are ligulate and perfect.
