Habitat: Black oak (Quercus velutina) barrens. Soil loose and sandy, covered by mosses and lichens. Assoc.: Agrostis scabra, Carex pensylvanica, C. foenica, Potentilla argentea, Lespedeza capitata, Euphorbia corollata, Helianthemum canadense,. Heterotheca villosa, Erigeron strigosus, etc. Locally abundant in roadway.
