Habitat: Steep, gravelly, dry slope with many species. Growing in an opening in an oak forest created by a road/abandoned RR bed. Associates include: Andropogon gerardi, A. scoparius, Solidago nemoralis, Rhus glabra, Euphorbia corollata, Aster sagittifolius, Asclepias tuberosa, Liatris aspera, Silphium integrifolium, Petalostemum purpureum, Desmodium canadense, Solidago hispita.
