Habitat: Sedge- and grass-dominated swale-like strip 7 m wide, perhaps mowed once ea. spring, between regularly mowed road verge and adjoining swampy woods (quaking aspen-red maple-jack pine). Surface soil moist, slightly peaty, dark gray fine sandy loam, prob.. slightly acid. Carex stricta (not forming tussocks) dominant, Glyceria canadensis subdominant, forming a uniform meadow with cover 7 dm tall from which emerge widely scattered plants of Osmunda regalis, Helianthus giganteus & Solidago gigantea; assoc.: Thelypteris palustris, Hierochloe odorata, Panicum boreale, Juncus effusus, Anemone canadensis, Aronia melanocarpa, Potentilla simplex, Rosa blanda, Rubus hispidus, Oenothera perennis, Galium obtusum, Campanula aparinoides var. ap., Krigia biflora, etc.
