Habitat: Sedge & grass-dom. swale-like strip 7 m wide, perhaps mowed once ea. spring, between regularly mowed road verge and adjoining swampy woods (quaking aspen-red maple-jack pine). Surface soil moist, slightly peaty, dark gray fine sandy loam, prob. slightly. acid. Carex stricta (not forming tussocks) dom., Glyceria canadensis subdom., forming a uniform meadow w/ cover 7 dm tall from which emerge widely scattered plants of Osmunda regalis, Helianthus giganteus & Solidago gigantea; assoc.Thelypteris palustris, Hierochloe odorata, Panicum boreale, Juncus effusus, Anemone canadensis, Aronia melanocarpa, Potentilla simplex, Rosa blanda, Rubus hispidus, Oenothera perennis, Galium obtusum, Campanula aparinoides var. ap., Krigia biflora, etc. Sheet 1 of 2.
