Habitat:
Quercus woods, in deep rich soil. Both on top of hill and at marsh edge. Common. Fruiting flower stalk arising from leaf axil, substened by fuzzy involucre of leaves. Fruit faintly ridged & w/ appressed hairs. Several aborted fruits in each umbel. Roots thin & taprootish, turning to run parallel to the soil surface.
