Habitat: With Podophyllum peltatum, Ranunculus septentrionalis, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Phlox divaricata, Isopyrum biternatum, Geranium maculatum, Viola sp. (yellow), Acer saccharum seedlings. Shrub layer: Crataegus sp., Cornus racemosa, Xanthoxylum americanum. Canopy in area incl. Acer saccharum, Quercus bicolor, Fraxinus pennsylvanica. Dupl. EHZ 473b in E H Zimmerman collection. This specimen from one of 3 clones seen, had more fruiting culms than the others.
