Habitat: Wet flat peaty depression (acidic swale) between two beach ridges, resembling a semi-open bog. Associated species-Dominants are Picea mariana (1-dom) & Larix laricina (2-dom), w/ Pinus banksiana (3-dom) & P. strobus (4-dom) important trees; dominants in the storied shrub layer are Nemopanthus mucronatus & Chamaedaphne calyculata, w/ Rubus setosus, s.1., freq.; shagnum moss & Rhynchospora fusca dominate the ground layer, w/ Calopogon pulchellus common. Flora incl. Osmunda cinnamomea, Panicum acuminaum var. fasciculatum (det. Freckmann), C. oligosperma, C. lasiocarpa, C. cephalantha, Iris versicolor, Drosera intermedia, D. rotundifolia, Acer rubrum seedlings, Triadenum fraseri, Andromeda glaucophylla, Vaccinium macrocarpon, V. angustifolia
