Habitat: Center hump of two-track vehicle lane through main old field slowly reverting to prairie. Assoc.: Agrimonia gryposepala (rare), Cornus racemosa sprouts, Dalea purpurea, Erigeron annuus, Heliopsis helianthoides, Poa pratensis, and Solidago canadensis. Herbage yellow-green when fresh, turned pure green overnight in the press. Dry (?) open habitat (clayey? soil over Galena-Black River dolomite) surrounded by acres of Coreopsis tripteris, which obviously had been sown.
