Habitat: Seepy area on gently sloping, southeast-facing slope of river valley. Under moderate shade of Salix bebbii, Acer spicatum, and Corylus cornuta. Also with Rubus pubescens, Glyceria striata, Athyrium filix-femina, Osmunda claytoniana, Cornus canadensis, Coptis trifolia, and Carex disperma. Surrounding old-growth forest dominated by Thuja occidentalis, Picea glauca, Abies balsamea, and Pinus resinosa. Large, sprawling 2 m2, 1 m tall shrub.
