Lower edge of mowed lane bordering dry-mesic upland prairie, densely growing Bromus inermis dominant, with Medicago sativa, Silene latifolia, & Trifolium pratense, nothing else.
One clump only, of 6 stems. Repeatedly, I have seen one to few clumps of Carex gravida alongside but not within our Wisconsin prairie remnants, as if the plants had blown in from farther west and were reaching out, trying to gain their natural habitat. Perigynia 4.3--4.7 X 2.0--2.4 mm.
