Habitat:
In thin soil over rock in narrow band along top of basalt cliff and forest from midway of high cliff, south down to where rock outcrops, forest and river meet, and scattered about in crevices of sheer rock face--down to high water line. Predominant overstory of Pinus strobus, Thuja occidentalis, Juniperus virginiana; Ground associates: Achillea millefolium, Aquilegia canadensis, Arabidopsis lyrata, Cystopteris fragilis, Elymus vurginicus, Pellaea glabella, Polypodium virginianum, and Woodsia ilvensis.
Occurrence Remarks:
Abundance: in the thousands from large groups to scattered clumps.
